These two session I was task into creating a series of illustrations that is mapping out Cheltenham. the map starts from Cheltenham imperial garden to University of Gloucestershire Francis close campus. With this series of illustrations, my aim was help someone get through Cheltenham through just visual pieces. So with knowledge of this task I head out into Cheltenham and had to gain data and a idea of what I wanted to do with Cheltenham. At first I wanted to create fantasy theme based on Alice in wonderland theme and I thought that the imperial gardens could be the mad tea party scene from the book and the university would be the Queen of Hearts castle. My reasons of choosing idea is because I am fan of the book and the architecture of the university reminded me of castle. But after think about this it would be a lot of imagination when the aim of the project is to create visual that give detail of Cheltenham. So I had to rethink my plan, so when I went into town I got an idea by look around town. I decide to go for every corner on the way when walking from the Imperial garden to Francis close campus. But again I came across another problem with this plan, the problem is that there is too much of a gap between the corners and it does not visual describe the journey clearly enough. So I have edit it the plan into a new idea which is describe the journey but colour an object that hints to the next illustration. This plan with create more work for me but I think it would be a good task for me try out to help improve my observational drawings.
When I went outside to draw but could not do it because it was too cold to draw outside, so I took photos on my phone. With this gathered information I started to look at the photo and see which ones had the right angle that I wanted. After deciding I did some rough sketches of what I wanted to do. I decided to also included little illustrations of things that I liked on the walk such as teapots from Whittard or owl cushion, random things. I liked that I included this idea because then it adds my interest of what I found on the walk. After finishing the rough sketches I decided to then highlight the lines with a fine liner pen. I would off added colour to the images but again I did not have time to finish them. I think that it was good to take my advice from the previous project and take time with the illustrations but I think next time aim for my objection. But with this set back I have discovered that I liked the idea of drawing buildings because they provide interesting shapes and angles. This is something that I would like to continue and maybe finish it into my other projects besides Drawing classes. I know I did not do thumbnails with project because I had a multiply range of photos to choice from, so there was no need but I will use it in the next project.
